  NASHVILLE (BP) -- The Southern Baptist Convention is built upon relationships between local churches, associations, state conventions and national entities. A new change to church tracking could help strengthen those relationships and provide more information to better reach communities with the Gospel.

• SBC: Giving increases while baptisms continue decline

  NASHVILLE (BP) -- Southern Baptist congregations saw an increase of more than $82 million in overall giving in 2018, according to the latest Annual Church Profile (ACP) report. However, other key metrics declined slightly in 2018, including baptisms, membership, average worship attendance and total number of Southern Baptist churches.

  The number of churches cooperating with the Southern Baptist Convention declined by 88 to 47,456 or 0.19 percent. Southern Baptists also reported 4,085 church-type missions last year, a decline of 291 or 6.65 percent. The number of churches and missions combined is 51,541 congregations. The ACP is compiled by LifeWay Christian Resources in cooperation with Baptist state conventions. Read More

• Colo. increases 80% in reported baptisms

  DENVER (BP) -- Colorado Baptists are celebrating an 80 percent increase in reported baptisms for 2017 and the highest reported total for the Colorado Baptist General Convention (CBGC) since 2014.

  CBGC executive director Nathan Lorick announced a 73 percent increase April 2 via Twitter and told Baptist Press today (April 4) additional baptism reports have improved the percentage. Possible factors contributing to the reported baptism surge are evangelism among churches, strong church planting and an emphasis on submitting reports for the Southern Baptist Convention's Annual Church Profile (ACP), Lorick said.   NASHVILLE (BP) -- Southern Baptists experienced growth in the number of churches that cooperate with the SBC in 2016, according to the latest Annual Church Profile report (ACP).

  However, other key measures declined in 2016, including membership, baptisms, average worship attendance and total giving, according to the ACP compiled by LifeWay Christian Resources in cooperation with Baptist state conventions.

  The number of churches cooperating with the Southern Baptist Convention grew by 479 to 47,272, a 1 percent increase over 2015. The number of Southern Baptist churches has increased the last 18 years. Southern Baptist churches also reported 4,492 church-type missions last year. Read More
